Drafting and Sewing: Dress
About This Course
This course provides comprehensive training in dress pattern drafting, construction, and fit evaluation, perfect for aspiring designers and fashion enthusiasts. Participants will begin by learning to draft a basic dress block using precise measurements or specifications, following industrial organization standards to ensure accuracy and consistency.
The course covers advanced pattern-making techniques, including dart manipulation and the slash-and-spread method, to create a variety of dress styles from the basic block. Learners will practice labeling and marking individual pattern pieces with symbols and notches, following industry standards for efficient garment assembly.
Hands-on sessions include sewing a dress toile (mock-up) to test the fit, with a focus on evaluating the toile against initial measurements or specifications. Based on the fit evaluation, participants will make necessary adjustments before constructing the final dress. By the end of this course, learners will be equipped with the skills to create custom-fitted dresses with professional finishes.
