About This Course
This course provides foundational training in pattern drafting, garment construction, and quality evaluation, ideal for beginners and aspiring designers. Participants will begin by learning to draft basic pattern blocks based on accurate body measurements, creating a solid foundation for well-fitted garments.
The course covers developing a variety of simple collarless tops and skirts using pattern manipulation techniques, allowing participants to customize designs while retaining the correct fit. Learners will also practice labeling and marking individual pattern pieces with symbols and notches, following industry practices to ensure precision during construction.
Hands-on sewing exercises will include constructing a simple top and skirt according to specified measurements, emphasizing clean finishes and accurate assembly. Participants will complete the course by evaluating their finished garments against the original specifications to ensure proper fit and quality, making any necessary adjustments. This course equips learners with the essential skills needed to begin their journey in garment design and construction.

2. Develop Patterns for Collarless Tops and Skirts
This module covers creating patterns for simple collarless tops and skirts using manipulation techniques on basic blocks to achieve various designs.
3. Label and Mark Pattern Pieces
Learners will practice labeling and marking pattern pieces with symbols and notches, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards in garment assembly.
4. Sew a Simple Top and Skirt
Participants will construct a simple top and skirt based on given specifications, focusing on proper sewing techniques and clean finishes.
5. Evaluate Product Against Specifications
This module teaches participants to assess their finished garments against the given measurements and specifications, ensuring they meet quality and fit standards.
Entry Requirements
Singapore/PR Students:
Aged 16 years and above AND
Possess at least 3 GCE ‘N’ Level credits including English and Mathematics OR
ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 4 and above OR
International Students:
Aged 16 years and above AND
High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘N’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR
Qualifications from professional institutes may be considered on a case-by-case basis AND/OR
Pass TaF.tc Entrance Test
English Language Requirement –
Possess a minimum credit in English at GCE ‘N’ Level or its equivalent OR
IELTS score 4.5 or TOEFL score 32
