About This Course
MTH109 Calculus introduces students to the study of limits, continuity, differential calculus and integral calculus in one variable. Students will be exposed to computational techniques in evaluating limits, derivatives, integrals. Applications of this course include optimisation, calculating areas between curves and volumes of cylindrical shells.
What You'll Learn
1. Determine limits of functions of one variable
2. Apply derivative tests to find relative extremum of differentiable function(s) of one variable
3. Solve for the derivative of a given integral
4. Use a Taylor polynomial of a given function to estimate the value of the function at a given point up to fixed degree of accuracy.
5. Employ various techniques of integration to evaluate integrals.
6. Calculate the area between given curves and/or volume of given solids of revolution.
