About This Course

A competent individual must be able to successfully perform the following in accordance with organizational procedures:
1) Identify the fundamentals of CAM in manufacturing environment.
2) List the different types of manufacturing data.
3) Identify and create Program, Tool, Geometry and Method objects.
4) Identify and interpret machining parameters and strategies.
5) Perform 2D tool path generation using objects for 3-axis CNC machining.
6 ) Perform 3D tool path generation using objects for 3-axis CNC machining.
7) Perform 3D tool path generation using objects for multi-axis CNC machining.
8) Apply CAM techniques for precision components, moulding inserts, aerospace and oil & gas applications.
9) Evaluate and explain the concept of tool path verification.
10) Post process tool path data to generate machine specific codes.

What You'll Learn

A competent individual should be equipped with the following knowledge:
1) CAM Module:
- Overview of CAM module
- Setting up CAM machining environment
- Menu bars and toolbar icons
- Operation navigator and its four views
- Machine coordinate system
- Geometry types and definition
- Different types of manufacturing data
2) Operation and Parameter Setting:
- Start-up of CAM application
- New program creation
- Selection and creation of tools
- Selection and creation of geometry
- Creation of method object for roughing, semi-finishing & finishing
- Setting up of avoidance
- Definition of approach and departure movement
- Setting up of cutting parameters
- Setting up of tool path
3) Program Generation and Verification:
- 2D tool path generation for 3-axis CNC machining
- 3D tool path generation for 3-axis CNC machining
- 3D tool path generation for multi-axis CNC machining
- Application of CAM programming for geneva wheel, mould inserts, copper electrode, impeller and oil & gas components
- Tool path display
- Tool path simulation
- Gouge check
4) Post Processing:
- Selection of type of machine tool
- Application of post processing to generate machine codes
- Display and output machine codes

Entry Requirements

Candidates with ITE Nitec / Higher Nitec / NTC-2 / WSQ Advanced Certificate or equivalent qualifications with at least four years of relevant experience in the manufacturing/precision engineering industries.
