About This Course
Through this course, participants will have a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with deep decarbonisation in the coming decades, as well as the analysis tools that are commonly employed to study the underlying issues and manage trade-off. Topics covered during the course are: - Energy system transformation - Net zero emissions - Decarbonisation strategies - Energy-economic system flows - Embodied emission measures - Marginal abatement cost analysis - Market-based mechanisms - Decision making under uncertainties - Energy system modelling and analysis
What You'll Learn
A substantial reduction of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions below present levels is required to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C. This calls for a fundamental transformation of the energy sector – or deep decarbonisation – whereby net zero emissions are reached by around 2050 globally. Deep decarbonization, in turn, involves far reaching transformations in society, economy and industry. Businesses will have to make changes to the way they operate and governments will need to play a leading role in designing decarbonisation pathways. All these transformations, while challenging and profound, will also create new employment, business and market opportunities.
Singapore is actively looking into innovative ways to facilitate the low-carbon transition and seize the green growth opportunities. With this in mind, this course introduces participants to the principles of deep decarbonisation and the commonly used analysis tools. The expected participants are those who are directly involved or interested in low-carbon transition, net zero emissions and green economy at the business, industry or national level.
