Overview
Founded in 1388, the University of Cologne is one of the oldest and largest universities in Germany. It is a major center for research in the life sciences, social sciences, and humanities. After being closed in 1798 during the Napoleonic era, it was re-established in 1919 and has since grown into a vital part of the Rhineland's academic landscape.
