What You'll Learn

The workshop will educate participants on the different types of child abuse and neglect and the impact of these on children and young persons. Taking into consideration various factors existing within the family and the systems in place to protect children and young persons, participants will be able to assess the levels of concern and identify the appropriate strategies for intervention. This workshop will also highlight the importance of workers’ reflection on their personal values on issues of abuse and neglect as this has a significant impact on their work in protecting children and young persons.

Entry Requirements

The target audience includes child protection workers, school counsellors, medical social workers, police officers, social workers, school personnel, counsellors and social service practitioners who are involved in working with children and young persons.
The skills and knowledge for this course, which the learner is assumed to possess, are as follows:
• Be able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6
• Be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6
• Be able to use numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 6
