Learners will also understand the possible factors contributing to a fall, be equipped with the knowledge to anticipate and prevent falls at home, to support elderly who are fall-risk, and manage any emergency situations that might arise from a fall.
What You'll Learn
Aging can affect the basic 6 Activities of Daily Livings (ADLs) which are the routine tasks (showering, feeding, personal hygiene and grooming, dressing, toileting and mobility) of the elderly. This program aims to provide learners with an understanding on how to utilize effective skills to assist the elderly to perform their basic daily routine tasks, and equips the learner with further knowledge on fall-prevention, managing fall risks and having an approach to emergency preparedness to handle emergency situations arising from a fall in the home environment.
This foundational program targets individuals with no prior training in communicating or caregiving with elderly or who may have prior minimal contact with elderly whose 6 ADLs are impacted and now require caregiving. It first provides learners with a basic understanding of aging’s impact on the elderly’s basic 6 ADLs, then equips the learner with skills to interact with and assist the elderly to carry out their 6 ADLs effectively in the comfort of the elderly’s home environment.
This program also educates learners to prioritize the safety of the elderly by equipping learners with the knowledge to anticipate and prevent falls at home, to support elderly who are fall-risk, and manage possible emergency situations that might arise from a fall.
