Management of Prehospital Obstetric & Paediatric Emergencies
About This Course
Obstetric and paediatric emergencies in the prehospital environment are relatively infrequent yet carry high clinical risk and emotional intensity. Prehospital care providers must make timely, accurate decisions while managing vulnerable patients in resource‑limited, unpredictable settings.
This short course is designed to equip paramedics and prehospital practitioners with essential knowledge, practical skills, and clinical confidence to manage obstetric and paediatric emergencies safely and effectively prior to hospital arrival. Learners will develop a structured, evidence‑based approach to assessment, decision‑making, and intervention for high‑risk maternal and paediatric cases encountered in the field.
The course adopts a blended learning approach, combining asynchronous online learning with face‑to‑face classroom sessions. Online lessons allow learners to acquire core theoretical knowledge at their own pace, while in‑person lessons focus on interactive discussions, hands‑on practice, and facilitated scenario‑based simulations to reinforce clinical application.
By the end of the course, learners will be better prepared to be decisive, and clinically effective during high‑stress obstetric and paediatric emergencies. The integration of theory with realistic scenarios enhances learners’ confidence, competence, and teamwork, ultimately contributing to safe prehospital management, improved patient outcomes, and greater professional readiness on the road.
