Data Analytics & Data Literacy Essentials
About This Course
Data analytics is not about creating charts. It is about designing structured investigations that answer business questions with evidence, and knowing how to interpret what the data is actually telling you.
This focused, one-day foundational course covers two things, done properly: how to frame a business problem as a structured analytical question, and how to explore a dataset to find and quantify the patterns that answer it. Trainees learn to approach business problems methodically, applying core statistics and data modelling concepts in plain business language, then to extract meaningful patterns and insights from data to improve organisational performance.
The practical core is hands-on dataset work. Trainees explore datasets visually and analytically, configure and customise data models to investigate business hypotheses, and apply data mining techniques to analyse significant volumes of data and discover and quantify the patterns within it. The discipline that turns output into value runs throughout: distinguishing a meaningful pattern from noise, and translating what the data shows into a clear, defensible statement of business implication. AI-assisted tools are introduced to show how modern analytics environments accelerate exploration, without replacing the judgment trainees bring to what the data means.
By the end of the course, trainees hold genuine analytical foundations: the mental models, vocabulary, and hands-on experience to frame a question, interrogate a dataset, and state what it means for the business with confidence.
What You'll Learn
- Frame organisational business problems as structured analytical questions with clear hypotheses and data requirements
- Explain why organisations invest in data analytics and what genuine business insight looks like versus a well-formatted report
- Apply core statistical and data modelling concepts to real business scenarios, in plain language without requiring a mathematics background
- Explore datasets visually and analytically, examining a dataset systematically and distinguishing meaningful patterns from noise
- Extract meaningful patterns and insights from data to improve organisational performance, and interpret the implications of those patterns for business problem scenarios
- Configure and customise data models to investigate business hypotheses
- Apply data mining techniques to analyse significant volumes of data and discover and quantify patterns that surface business insights
- Translate what the data shows into a clear, defensible statement of business implication
- Apply AI-assisted tools to support and accelerate analytical exploration without replacing analytical judgment
