Advanced Camera Techniques & Creative Lighting Photography
About This Course
At the advanced level, photography moves beyond technical correctness into creative direction. You stop reacting to conditions and start designing them. This course is for photographers who can operate a camera in full manual mode and are ready to execute structured, concept-driven shoots at a professional standard. You will learn to design and implement multi-light setups for portrait, product, and concept photography, understanding how to position and modify each light source to achieve a specific visual effect. You will direct subjects confidently, translating your lighting and compositional vision into actual human performance. You will apply advanced composition at a level beyond rules, using gestalt principles, visual weight, and spatial tension as deliberate creative instruments. You will plan and schedule each shoot as a structured production, preparing the concept brief, lighting diagram, equipment list, shot list, and shooting sequence, then run the production on set, executing the plan, directing the session, and adapting to conditions as they change.
The course also addresses the critical gap between shooting and post-production. It covers how to shoot specifically for editing, making RAW capture decisions, colour space choices, and exposure strategy decisions that expand your editing latitude and align the post-production workflow with the shoot's creative direction.
By the end of this course, you will be able to produce concept-driven, professionally lit photographs from brief to delivery.
What You'll Learn
- Operate advanced camera controls: back-button autofocus, custom profiles, metering modes, exposure bracketing, and eye-tracking AF
- Apply advanced composition using visual weight, gestalt grouping, negative space, and compositional tension to build hierarchy and emotional weight
- Construct multi-light setups, controlling key, fill, and rim placement, ratios, and modifier selection to shape each light source
- Reverse-engineer a lighting setup from a reference image and reproduce the effect
- Direct subjects with specific, confident instruction to match the lighting and compositional intent
- Plan and schedule a shoot as a structured production: concept brief, lighting diagram, equipment list, shot list, and sequence
- Run the production on set, executing the shot plan and adapting to conditions
- Make RAW capture and exposure decisions, and select formats, colour space, and a non-destructive workflow for delivery
