About This Course

Upon successful completion of the module, the trainee will be able to perform the following specific tasks:

• Develop an understanding of the principles of Maven and its role in building backend applications.
• Understand the core modules of Spring and how to use them in software development.
• Gain an in-depth understanding of web technologies such as SOAP and REST, and learn how to build scalable web applications.
• Gain practical experience in building web services using JAX-WS and JAX-RS, including the ability to configure endpoints and handle requests and responses.
• Test REST APIs using the popular API tester Postman.
• Use JPA to interface with databases and understand how ORMs work.

What You'll Learn

This module introduces to the trainees the fundamental concepts of backend web development. Learners will be introduced to the Spring Framework with Maven, in particular to the core modules of Spring, where they will get their first initial exposure to software development with Spring. In addition, the module exposes the Apache family of servers, namely the Apache Tomcat server where it will be used as a test platform to learn about Web Services (SOAP and REST) with Java. The learners will also be using Postman, a popular API tester to test their REST APIs. JPA will also be introduced to learn how it is used for interfacing with databases.
