AI Design Studio: Iterative Lesson Design for Adult Learning with GenAI
About This Course
Many educators can prompt AI to produce a lesson outline, but generic outputs often don’t reflect learner needs, sound pedagogy, inclusive design, or organisational quality expectations. This CPD is positioned for educators, trainers, and learning developers who want to use GenAI as a design collaborator while keeping professional judgement at the centre.
Participants work with realistic lesson-design examples, a fit-for-purpose pedagogical template (Merrill's First Principles), AI-generated lesson variants, and a Mayer-based multimedia review process. The focus is on educator-facing lesson planning: diagnosing the instructional context, selecting an appropriate design structure, testing alternatives, and making defensible decisions about what to keep, change, or reject.
The course is deliberately tool-agnostic. Instead of locking participants into one platform, it introduces an adaptable workflow for generating, comparing, auditing, and consolidating AI-assisted lesson designs. Participants leave with a final lesson plan, a lightweight design worksheet, and reusable prompts/templates. These outputs can be used as repeatable design assets for future course refresh, lesson redesign, or peer review of AI-assisted courseware.
ADAPT alignment: 1.1 Design & Planning, 3.2 Critical Evaluation & Information Quality, 3.4 Resource Creation, and 3.6 Accessibility & Sustainability at Intermediate level.
What You'll Learn
The course is framed around adult education lesson design where participants analyse an instructional context, select a fit-for-purpose pedagogical template such as Merrill's First Principles of Instruction, and use Design Thinking to generate, prototype, test, and refine AI-assisted lesson variants.
Participants will also evaluate AI-generated lesson materials using Mayer's multimedia principles, with accessibility and information-integrity checks so that outputs are inclusive, coherent, and suitable for the intended learners.
Participants complete an individual written assignment during the course and submit it through Google Classroom, producing practical evidence they can adapt for their own adult education, training, or learning development workflow.
Within the Institute for Adult Learning-Artificial Intelligence Singapore (IAL-AISG) ADAPT Certification Series, this Intermediate course builds on the GenAI fundamentals and responsible-use practice from the Tier 1 (Basic) courses (W1 and W2) and prepares participants for W4 (AI Formative Assessment Studio) and the Tier 3 (Advanced) courses, developing ADAPT proficiencies across Design & Planning (1.1), Critical Evaluation & Information Quality (3.2), Resource Creation (3.4), and Accessibility & Sustainability (3.6).
