About This Course

This CPD is positioned for educators, trainers, and learning developers, not as a generic prompt-engineering workshop. The course is differentiated by its emphasis on professional judgement: not just getting better outputs, but deciding whether and how an output should be used at all.

Many professionals are already experimenting with GenAI, but the real challenge in adult education is knowing how to use AI responsibly in learning-related work: preparing learner guides, improving activity briefs, drafting facilitator instructions, adapting explanations for different audiences, generating formative question ideas, summarising public source material, or reviewing learner-facing content before use.

The course is deliberately tool-agnostic. Instead of locking participants into one platform, it helps them understand current categories of capability, such as text generation, file analysis, multimodal input, project spaces, custom assistants, and export or collaboration features, where these are available. Because AI tools change quickly, the course uses adaptable principles and illustrative frameworks rather than fixed platform recipes.

Participants leave with a clearer sense of how AI can support adult education work, how to ask for better outputs, how to check what the tool produces, and how to decide whether an output can be used responsibly with learners, clients, colleagues, or stakeholders. The course supports ADAPT-aligned development in Digital and AI Literacy, Critical Evaluation and Information Quality, and Ethics and Licensing at Basic level.

What You'll Learn

This practical one-day CPD equips adult educators, trainers, and learning developers with the foundational AI literacy needed to use generative AI confidently, critically, and responsibly in adult learning work.

The course is framed around adult education use cases rather than generic prompt-engineering practice. Illustrative activities may involve learner instructions, facilitator notes, training communications, formative question ideas, resource summaries, learner-facing explanations, or simple activity briefs.

Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, participants learn to use structured prompting approaches, such as RADICAL Prompting, to improve the clarity and usefulness of AI outputs for specific learning-related needs. They also practise verification using approaches such as VALID, which supports checks on facts, reasoning, sources, contextual fit, and documentation. The course also touches on responsible-use decision-making, including privacy, attribution, disclosure, learner/client sensitivity, and human accountability.

Participants complete an individual written assignment during the course and submit it through Google Classroom, producing practical evidence they can adapt for their own adult education, training, or learning development workflow.

Through these objectives, this course develops Basic-level proficiency across three ADAPT sub-strands in the Digital Literacy & Resources domain: Digital & AI Literacy Development (D3.1), Critical Evaluation & Information Quality (D3.2), and Ethics & Licensing (D3.5). As the basic course in the IAL-AISG (ADAPT) Certification Programme, it builds the responsible-AI literacy that AI Creation Studio (W2) and the studio courses that follow draw on, helping participants connect each course to their ADAPT proficiency growth as adult educators.
